The first dedicated church structure, built around 1900, served the entire community until other denominations constructed their own buildings. The marker notes the contributions of local figures, including saloon owners who donated buckets of silver dollars to support the church.
The original church structure, built around 1900, was destroyed by a severe tornado in 1927. The storm was so powerful it detached the church bell clapper and deposited it five miles away. The congregation erected the current building in 1928.
