The Real County Historical Museum preserves the pioneer history of Leakey and the Frio Canyon through extensive collections of local artifacts, tools, and period rooms.
Located in Leakey, the Real County Historical Museum offers a look into the lifestyles of early settlers in the Frio Canyon. The facility features a replicated log-cabin parlor, kitchen, and bedroom furnished with pieces donated by local families. Visitors can view a large collection of local stone dartpoints used by prehistoric Native Americans and an ornate 1880s horse-drawn hearse that is still pulled in local parades.
The museum is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. They take a winter break for deep cleaning and maintenance, but special tours can still be arranged by leaving a phone message or email.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted. The museum operates as a 501c3 organization and relies on visitor contributions to maintain its exhibits and facilities.
