The Leakey School Historical Marker stands at 101 E Main, detailing the evolution of education in the Frio River Canyon from early home-schooling to a consolidated independent school district.

Erected in 2003 by the Texas Historical Commission, the Leakey School Historical Marker chronicles the educational heritage of the area. Settlers arriving in the mid-1850s initially taught their children at home before establishing early schoolhouses near Brooks Springs and the John Leakey residence. In 1883, land was deeded for the Floral School Community, which eventually transferred to Edwards County officials in 1887 for use as the Leakey School. The marker stands as a testament to the community's enduring dedication to learning.
