A roadside historical marker on FM 187 commemorates the site of the Old Taylor School, an 1883 educational and community center for early settlers.
Founded in 1883 on land donated by early settlers, the Old Taylor School began in a one-room frame building with homemade desks and recitation benches. The school served as a central gathering place for the community, hosting a weekly Literary Society, Sunday school, and church services. After the original structure burned, two subsequent buildings housed students until the school consolidated with nearby Utopia in 1937.
The marker is located on the west side of FM 187, about 0.3 miles north of West Sabinal Road, between Vanderpool and Utopia.

The Old Taylor School was founded in 1883 by Henry Taylor, Gid Thompson, and other early settlers who donated the land.
